Justice for Farm Workers

Hello Everyone!

I took this conversation to twitter earlier this week. Due to COVID-19 it is evident how crucial farm workers are to the United States. However, this does not reflect their pay. Seasonal farmworkers are paid $6500 per year and migrant farmworkers are paid $5000. They are literally feeding the country and they cannot even make a living wage. Farm work exposes workers to chemical injuries, skin disorders, as well as other physical injuries. Agricultural work is incredibly draining and it's rated one of the most dangerous occupations. This should be on everyone's mind because we all eat. When you are at Walmart or any grocery store, realize that someone picked those strawberries for you. Someone packaged that lettuce. Someone was bent over picking those tomatoes. In the fastest, most effective way possible. All of this while sacrificing their body to feed you. Farm workers do not work your average 40-hour work week. They work sun rise to sun set. It is inhumane to allow this to continue happening. So why don't people care? Is it because the majority of farm workers don't speak English? Is it because the majority are not white? If the minimum wage is $7.25, why are farm workers getting paid crumbs? How can you stand by knowing legislation/corporations are mistreating the people serving you?
